FAQ's and Policies for Human Hair Wigs
Where does our human hair come from? Our human hair is grown and "harvested" in Asia and the Far East from reliable youthful sources.
Is a human hair wig for me? Human hair wigs are worn primarily by those with hair thinning hair or hair loss, and by those who need or want to wear wigs almost everyday. They are also sometimes worn for religious reasons. A good human hair wig will last about three times longer than a synthetic and the "feel" of them is more natural, of course, than synthetics.
In the old days, folks brought their wigs in every two weeks or so, to be re-set and styled. That was the norm. Even today, with most human hair wigs, you need have it TRIMMED, THINNED and STYLED to taste BEFORE you wear it out. Then you will be able to re-set the style from time to time. So if this is something you can not do yourself, or you do not know someone who will do this for you, you should stay with synthetics which are ready to wear.
However synthetics do not last as long as human hair wigs, and nothing looks more natural than a properly selected and styled human hair wig.
Pre-styled human hair wigs are now available from Noriko/Rene of Paris and Louis Ferre. They will not require a styling session before wearing, though some styles may be optionally trimmed.
Note: The photos you see of Raquel Welch's and Georgie's human hair wigs have been styled before shooting. Only the Noriko and Louis Ferre wigs are depicted as they come right out of the box, with a gentle combing before the photo shoot.
Will I save money by purchasing online? A great big YES! Most salons will charge anywhere from 50% higher to even double and triple the prices we have online. But to their rescue, they do usually offer services along with the higher prices, such as style selection, trimming, and customization. You will save the most with us when you know what style works for you, and also know of someone in your area ( a trusted hair stylist is fine) who can trim and style wigs.
What are your return/exchange policies for human hair wigs? You can
EXCHANGE your first human hair wig for another wig or wigs (human hair or synthetic). Your salon credit is for equal value. There is a $20 service fee to handle a human hair exchange. We do not offer outright returns with credits to your card on human hair wigs. You will get a salon credit that is good with no time limit. We request that with an exchange you send a photo of yourself and if possible a small swatch of the hair color you want to match, if that is the case.
We will then contact you by phone or email and help you select the best style(s) for yourself. Or, if you have styles that have been reliable for you, you can exchange for your own "tried and true". Note: Exchange policy will not apply if the wig was bought as a final sale.
If you request an exchange on a human hair wig, the same exchange policies exist as does with our synthetics. Wigs
must be only tried on, not worn out, and with the tags on in their original manner, looking brand new. You must
notify us via email or your exchange request within 5 days of receipt of the item, but we suggest you do so
right away. We will email you an RA#. WigSalon.com will be glad to offer personal and professional style consultation if you include a photo of yourself with the exchange request. You can even email a photo to us in a jpg or gif file. Our email address is info@wigsalon.com.
When they arrive to me, do they look like the picture? We are proud to say that styles by Noriko/Rene of Paris and Louis Ferre as of 2004 are now pre-styled
and will arrive to you looking pretty much like the photo. The other brands of human hair wigs in the photos ( Georgie and Judy ) have all been trimmed, and styled by hairstylists who have experience cutting wigs.
Trim/styling can NOT be done us. It must be trimmed and styled while it is on your head. In some
cases, the bangs that you see must be cut in. That is the easiest part of trim/styling a wig.
In general, the shorter wigs require less trim/styling. The other human hair wigs are therefore not ready-to-wear. They all come in a tad too long need this trim/stying to acheive a perfect look.
Can I change the color of my human hair wig? Yes! One of the nicest features of a human hair wig
is that you CAN change the color. But, just as it is on your own hair, color changing is stressful
to the hair and should be kept to a minimum. Color lightenning and bleaching is more stressful than darkenning, and is NOT
recommended. You can have human hair wefts sewed in for lightenning highlights.
Making your wig slightly darker however is easily acheivable, and the products of PANTENE and other fine and mild
colorings are recommended for that purpose.
For these reasons, it is best to purchase a wig that is closest to the color you want, or slightly lighter.
How do I care for my human hair wig? We always recommend a line of shampoo & conditioners with the distinguishing
feature of having a low soap concentration. High soap concentration strips wigs of their natural oils.
Pantene Pro-V conditioner - Blue bottle for color-treated hair is an excellent choice.
We recommend the use of medium-sized velcro rollers to store curly or wavy wigs overnight in order to mainatin body.
Metal wire brush for brushing out any straight wig.
Wide-toothed wig pick comb to tease wet or damp curly wigs. Never brush out a dry curly wig - it will frizz up!
Dry wet wigs with the use of a blow dryer on low to cool settings.
If you can not find mild shampoos and conditioners, ask us and we will offer them with your order.
What sizes do you offer in human hair wigs? All of the Louis Ferre human hair wigs are monofilament. Monofilament wigs come in about 1/2 inch smaller than average caps to make up for the fact that often there is little or no hair to increase the head size. If your head size is average or slightly petite Louis Ferre will fit you fine. The other standard cap human hair wigs come in an average headsize of about 21 inches. But the Monet is made in a petite size, and the Chopard is made in a large size. Wonderfully, we can
change the size of any wig to what you want by custom-making it for you. The cost for this is $165 added to the wig price, and
wigs that are custom-made cannot be exchanged, so we both make sure the style and color is right before proceeding.
What about custom made human hair wigs? Any wig can be made in any size, or color under the sun.
Complete custom-orders take about one month to complete, and are priced according to what you are asking for. Start your
inquiry by emailing us your requests and include your phone number.
What is European human hair? European human hair (EHH) is from
reliable and youthful Caucasian sources. Most is harvested in Europe. European hair is therefore
lighter and thinner per strand, when compared to Asian hair. It is also much more expensive to acquire the hair.
What is REMY human hair? REMY human hair includes the "cuticle" on the hair shaft. Think of it as brown rice as opposed to white rice whre the outer layer has been removed. There is a thin outer layer ( microscopic) on human hair. REMY leaves on this layer. It makes the hair feel even more natural, and makes it so that it does NOT tangle as easily. The non tangle attribute also increases the long wear of REMY human hair wigs.
What about monofilament human hair wigs? Monofilament is standard with Noriko and Louis Ferre. With georgie, it is considered a special order, and can be
done for you upon request in most styles. Priced accordingly upon request.
